A portrait of JD Loius

Louis Critelli

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by exploration. Exposure and interaction with the things that force me to see the world in a new way and then digging in.

What is your most important artist tool?

My most important tool is the camera. It gives me the ability to frame my perspective and share a reality through my lens.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

My idea of perfect happiness would be to live in a constant flow of creative expression, inhibited by social or personal expectations.

Why do you make art?

I create art because it allows me to investigate, create, and share alternate realities.

Which talent would you most like to have?

If I could choose a talent, it would definitely be exceptional memory! The ability to recall information in exceptional detail would be really handy.

Working in the studio.

What inspires you?

I get inspiration out of everyday life. If you’re open to reception, ideas come from everywhere.

What is your most important artist tool?

Our most important tool is creativity. There are a million amazing cameras, lights and computer programs, but they’re only tools for creativity. It has to start as a seed somewhere.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Perfect happiness always comes when I build something successful, something that’s thriving. Not just financially, but on all levels. My family, a hobby, a single project or the business as a whole. It’s constantly growing and evolving, but if you create realistic milestones, those are my checkpoints for happiness.

Why do you make art?

I make art because I see things a certain way and I can’t see them any different. When an idea pops into my head it sticks and doesn’t leave, that’s how I know I was meant to be a creator.

Which talent would you most like to have?

A skill I try and work on most days is the ability to lead people and provide feedback while being still likeable and charismatic. It’s a lot more difficult than it sounds when you’re in a collaborative environment trying to get your ideas fully realized.
