Susan de Leeuw
Susan de Leeuw
Susan de Leeuw is an Ontario artist who is deeply inspired to explore intimate spaces, moments, and ideas, using photography, painting, and mixed media.
Currently, she can be found out photographing the world around her, exploring captured moments and the spaces they occupy, or in her studio, bringing her work to life through experimentation. Having a deep spiritual connection to life's elements and the hidden beauty they contain is an overarching theme in her work, as she works to pull out, draw out, highlight, and immerse the viewer in the beauty that she sees.
Susan obtained her BFA, University of Ottawa, in Studio and traditional Photography and then took that knowledge and passion to Europe to explore art in its many forms, showing her work in various spaces and galleries throughout the Netherlands.
"As a photographer and painter, I have been fascinated with perceived different worlds and 'spaces', not necessarily seen.
I find multi dimensions and reflections very interesting – they're full of hope, possibility, secrets and mysteries. It's about what you don't necessarily see at first glance – but by sitting in stillness, just looking, new and interesting things start to reveal themselves and bring a depth to the work, to life, that most don't expect – the clouds in a concrete jungle, the object outside the window, the light reflecting off a distant surface, the voyeur gazing in, the person who may or may not be there.
