Biography:
Lindsay-Ann Chilcott (b. 1999, Niagara Falls, Canada) is a multimedia artist who explores how technology can act as a vessel for social injustices, implemented by modern-day cyborgs. Specializing in pop surrealism, Chilcott utilizes electrical wires and other discarded matter from Canadian landfills to explore themes of consumerism, capitalism, and the distorted relationship between the physical and virtual worlds. Activism is central to her practice: she uses universally ‘readable’ and self-explanatory iconography to address major themes in her practice. Her work carries a social responsibility, as she finds meaning in the wire itself. By isolating electrical wires from their intended purpose of communication, she segregates digital influence to rely on natural perception.
Chilcott has exhibited internationally, including shows at Viridian Artists and the Salmagundi Club in New York City, New York, and the ARC Gallery in Chicago, Illinois. She has been included in solo exhibitions at MIWSFPA Gallery in St. Catharines, Canada, and On Task Studio in Toronto, Canada. Her work has been featured in several publications, including The Working Artist magazine, and Digital America. In 2023, Chilcott received the People's Choice Award at Impact: 2023, exhibited at the Neilson Park Creative Centre in Toronto, Canada. Chilcott currently lives and works in Niagara Falls, Canada.
