The definition of Women’s Work has evolved over time. Once, it defined any work historically undertaken by women, especially domestic tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and child rearing. As we enter a new decade of the 21st-century and gender roles continue to shift and grow, we understand that women’s work is a much more complex, all-encompassing term that defines all work that women do, both paid and unpaid.

By weaving together a collection of Niagara Falls stories, this exhibition seeks to celebrate the diversity of women’s roles within the labour force. It highlights not only the success of women in traditional roles, like teaching and nursing, but also showcases the strong contributions carved out by female leaders in our community as artists, broadcasters, activists, historians, managers, and politicians.

An Old-Time Kid Friendly Musical starring Maja Bannerman and Rusty McCarthy. Maja is always yearning and searching for the perfect snow globe. Unbeknownst to her, Rusty has decided to build one as the perfect gift to give her. Enjoy songs, skits, and silliness as Rusty and Maja commit to saving the evergreens and create their own festive tree to celebrate the winter season. Doors open at 6pm. Show starts promptly at 7pm.

New Books About a Changing Niagara Falls
Niagara Artists Centre publishes a pair of books: Disappearing Motels and Lost Movie Theatres by author Joan Nicks.

A book launch with the author Joan Nicks in attendance to be held at the Niagara Falls History Museum on Saturday 17 December from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m

The Niagara Artists Centre is pleased to announce the publication of two books that chronicle seismic change in the culture of Niagara Falls by local popular culture authority and NAC member Joan Nicks.

The two books, while companions to one another and published simultaneously, explore their subjects independently. Disappearing Motels, Cultural Decline of a Post-war Travel Icon and Lost Movie Theatres, Movie Going in a Cross-border City both draw a detailed description of how these fixtures once dominated and defined the cultural landscape of Niagara Falls.
