John Law Arts & Culture Wall Of Fame

As a kid, John Law wasn’t just obsessed with film, music and books – he wanted to know who made them. And how they did it. Journalism gave him the outlet to write about the things and people he always loved.  

Starting at his college paper in Windsor, where he wrote reviews, Mr. Law began his full career with newspapers in Orangeville and Brampton before arriving at the Niagara Falls Review in 1990. He made it his mission to cover the arts and artists with the same devotion the paper gave to news and sports. Since then, there is scarcely a band, musician or artist in the city Mr. Law has not interviewed and presented to the larger community. Despite massive cutbacks in newsrooms around North America, he has continued to promote and report on local arts and culture, including many stories and features on his fellow Wall of Fame inductees. He’s often the only reporter or audience for some of the smaller events and activities in the community.  

Among his many responsibilities over the years has been hundreds of Shaw Festival reviews, coverage of Niagara film and music events, features on Niagara Falls icons like James Cameron and Deadmau5, and numerous columns and stories urging more support for the arts in the city. Mr. Law’s career at the Niagara Falls Review has netted 18 Ontario Newspaper Award nominations and eight wins, including five wins for Arts & Entertainment Writing.  

Doing this job has allowed Mr. Law to meet many of his childhood idols. More importantly, he feels it has given a voice to our local artists and provided a spotlight for the work they do. Which, he hopes, has made Niagara Falls a more colourful and cultured city.
