Karen Fraser Arts & Culture Wall Of Fame

Karen Fraser was born in 1952 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  In 1985 she moved to Niagara Falls with her husband to raise their five children.  Karen has spent more than twenty years volunteering and contributing to arts and culture in Niagara Falls.

After having received the Gilwell Award for service to Scouts Canada, Karen expanded her interest in Niagara Falls by becoming a member of the Arts & Culture Commission.  She served with Arts and Culture for sixteen years, ten of which were spent as Chair of that Committee.  Under Karen’s leadership the Arts and Culture Commission/Committee developed an Awards Policy, sponsored the Niagara Music Awards, managed an Arts & Culture website and created an Art Donation policy for the City.  Participation in Volunteer Recognition Nights, Santa Claus and Canada Day events and concerts were expanded and Niagara’s local musicians were invited to sing the national anthem at City Council and participate in the production of two fundraising cds.

During the 2004/2005 year, Karen was on Arts and Culture committees on all three levels of government:  City, Regional and Provincial.  She helped adjudicate Ontario Heritage Fairs for both the Public and Catholic school boards for five years, served as Music Director for her church and established a Niagara Chapter of Momondays.

From 2002, Karen’s goal was to establish a Niagara Falls Arts and Culture Wall of Fame to honour and recognize the diverse artistic talent and accomplishments of the people of Niagara Falls.  Karen’s brainchild, the Wall of Fame, saw its first inductees in 2006.
