Adam White Arts & Culture Wall Of Fame

Adam White was born in 1925 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and grew up in Winnepeg, Manitoba.

Mr. White got a taste for the theatre while on tour of duty as a Spitfire pilot with the Royal Air Force in World War II, when he replaced one of the comedians on stage in an RCAF touring show. After the war he and his brother-in-law moved to Niagara Falls to manage the Rapids Tavern. Here he was introduced to the Niagara Falls Music Theatre Society (now the Firehall Theatre), and became a mainstay of the theatre group's operations - acting, directing, producing, building sets, organizing programs and whatever else came along. For close to forty years there was hardly a show or set that did not feel his scrutiny, hardly a person involved in the theatre group who did not benefit from his influence.

Mr. White's roots in local theatre run long and deep. Besides the Firehall Theatre, he was one of the founding members of the Press Theatre in St. Catharines. He worked extensively with Garden City Productions, Welland Little Theatre, Penny Farthing Players, and Firehall Summer Players. As well as his tireless work with local theatre companies, Mr. White has for many years sung with the men's barbershop chorus, the Singing Saints and performed with Lock Four Quartet and Trio Corn Brio.

For his enthusiastic work on behalf of Niagara theatre, Mr. White was presented the Stamford Collegiate Alumni Association Award in Memory of Barbara Frum in 1995.
